A grave incident took place last night in a remote village in the province of Mat in northern Albania. Three members of one family remained dead and two others seriously wounded after they were attacked with assault weapons in their front yard. There is no information available on the motives of the massacre or the perpetrators. Police is investigating possible property disputes or blood feuds. Both parents and their oldest son are among the victims, whereas two younger sons are in serious conditions in the hospital. Murder rate in Albania has recently soared. Two days ago in a village of Korça district, a 84-year-old man murdered his 42-year-old girlfriend in a fit of jealous rage, dismembered her and buried it in a shallow grave. A day before that, a man in Shijak, a small town in adjacent suburbs of Durres, shot his wife dead in their house.
Traffic accidents are also a serious problem in Albania and sources of tragic deaths. Last Friday an entire family of four died in an accident when their car skidded out of control due to high speed and tumbled down out of the road.
